2013 HoZac Blackout Day 3
Continuing (late) coverage of the 2013 Hozac Blackout in Chicago!
There was an early show over at the Mutiny. It looked a little like this.
First up was Jook
Then from Detroit was the impressive Fake Surfers.
Mac Blackout is a prolific artist and musician whose works I’ve enjoyed for years. From Functional Blackouts to Mickey and all his home recordings. I’d never had a chance to see him do his “solo” stuff live so was glad they played.
I wasn’t disappointed.
Afterwards we headed over to Empty Bottle but after meeting up with some old friends we managed to miss Population and instead got there in about the middle of Verma’s set.
Next up was FNU Ronnies with Wizzard Sleeve dudes and Chris Ilth.
I didn’t shoot any video of them but seijinlee did yet again!
And if that wasn’t bizarre enough for ya, Cop City Chill Pillars started off their set with something like “we’re sorry, we’re from Florida and we suck and we’re loud” or something like that.
I sorta couldn’t tell if they were a “real” band or some sorta improv comedy performance art thing or what but strangely enough, I sorta think I liked them. Or was that hated? I haven’t decided.
Easily the best band of the night was Wizzard Sleeve with Quintron.
Train wreck of the weekend goes to Chrome!
I didn’t last long shooting them. Got a few shots and a video and headed to the bar where I think they would have rather been too.
I’ve had all the “art punk” I can stand for awhile.
