Hozac Blackout Friday
I did something a little different this year than previously–shot both stills and video, though I only had my Nikon V1 for video. It does a great job but the audio isn’t exactly the best, mostly because I’m usually right up front next to the monitors and right in front of either one person’s amp or the drums or whatever. The best place to stand would probably be in the back center. Or it’s even better to just get a mix off the board. I did no such thing, though. I reckon the videos are good enough to give you an idea of what each band sounded like. I pretty much hate describing what bands sound like to people. So this year I got photos and video, a full-on media extravaganza and AV club overload!!!
One last note: If you want to see these larger, click on any image to go to my Flickr page and then hit “L” on your keyboard or click the magnifying glass to get HUGE full-screen pics. They look awesome and I’m really glad Flickr now gives you that option. If somebody makes a WordPress template that allows such a thing, I’d totally use it!
Sadly missed E.T. Habit but got to the show in time for Screaming Yellow Zonkers!
I keep getting asked who my favorite band of the weekend was and although I can’t be definitive, Cozy is high on the list.
All the way from San Diego came Plateaus.
Rayon Beach didn’t make it but…
Video more than made up for it. Another contender for best band of the weekend.
I’d just seen Spider Fever rock the hell out of Slim’s in SF a week before the Blackout and I think they were even better at the Blackout!
Possibly the best of the videos.
Even though I was starting to get tired after being up front, Davila 666 brought the energy and made the crowd go wild!!!!
Stood in the back and got a bit better audio for this one.
Stay tuned for two more days of rock and roll Blackout action coverage!!!
