Leica Rock
“Welcome to the Rock.” Great line from the cinematic masterpiece The Rock. At least it seemed like a masterpiece with my buddies and I watching it in the buck-fifty movie theater back in Chicago some decade plus ago with cheap forties we snuck in under our sweatshirts. Good times. Plus reading about it all these years, seeing Escape From when I was even younger (but probably only sipping chocolate milk). Even watching the recent series that was on the TV. Yet somehow had never made it out there in my almost 6 years of being in the Bay Area or the several previous years of being a frequent visitor. Finally the day after our wedding we took the ferry with some of the family courtesy of my best dude Josh. Even though I was still exhausted from the previous several nights of festivities and getting the beginnings of a cold I still managed to have a good time and come away with some decent shots. I kept the digital gear at home and only took the Leica M6 with the Minolta 40mm m-rokkor and the Voigtlander 12mm. Figured grainy high-speed black and white was the way to go and took a couple rolls of TMZ. I also had a roll of Ektar that I shot some with as well but mostly wanted the black and white for the already gritty interior. Anyway, watch those movies and dig these pics.

Josh supplied the tix and the supplementary history lessons. He’s been working out there for a bit and has been doing his research. Unfortunately I didn’t take notes so you’ll have to look stuff up yourself.

Awesome post. Love the grainy black and white inside, and the outside shots are lovely too. Great stuff.

Fantastic gallery of a very depressing place … I hate ever minute I spent out there – but you have some beauty in the place, maybe it’s beautiful the redhead on your arm ???!*smile
As always: Awesome work Chris! Didn’t we have fun? XO
